World Steel Association: Global Crude Steel Production in Sep 2025 Hits 141.8 Million Tons, Down 1.6% Year-on-Year
According to the World Steel Association (worlesteel), global crude steel production for the 70 reporting countries reached 141.8 million tonnes in September 2025, representing a year-on-year decline of 1.6%. A regional analysis reveals a varied situation across the global steel sector. Africa recorded production of around 2.0 million tonnes, up 8.2% compared to September 2024. Asia and Oceania produced 102.9 million tonnes, down by 2.1%. The EU (27) member states saw output of 10.1 million tonnes, a drop of 4.5%. “Other Europe” (non-EU) generated 3.6 million tonnes, up 1.4%. The Middle East posted 4.6 million tonnes, increasing by 9.3%. In North America, production reached 8.8 million tonnes, up 1.8%. The area comprising Russia & other CIS + Ukraine produced 6.2 million tonnes, down 5.3%, while South America’s output stood at 3.5 million tonnes, falling by 2.7%.
Turning to the top producing countries: China remained dominant with 73.49 million tonnes in September, but this represented a decrease of 4.6% year-on-year. The India steel industry bucked the broader global trend, with output of 13.60 million tonnes, up 13.2%. The United States posted 6.90 million tonnes, up by 6.7%. Japan produced 6.40 million tonnes, down 3.7%. Russia achieved approximately 5.20 million tonnes, down 3.8%, while South Korea recorded 5.00 million tonnes, down 2.4%. Turkey's production reached 3.20 million tonnes, marking a 3.3% increase, while Germany recorded 3.00 million tonnes, experiencing a slight 0.6% decrease. Brazil’s output was 2.80 million tonnes, down 3.2%, and Iran produced 2.30 million tonnes, reflecting a 6.0% rise.
